Private Housing boom fuels demand for specialist suppliers

Are generalist builders merchants losing out to specialists?

As we move through one of the most politically unstable periods in recent years, the UK construction sector continues to grow.

Despite UK spend dropping 1.6% on Private Industrial, Private Commercial and other public non-housing orders from Q1 2016 to Q1 2017, the spend on Private Housing orders has increased almost 40% in the same period. With the government’s drive for new house building only set to increase, developers are continuously planning new projects to meet the demands for new homes across the UK.

A growing construction industry leads to a growing building supplies sector, with developers and architects looking to form relationships with reliable suppliers of competitively-priced, good quality building products. In particular, Kellmann Recruitment has seen strong demand from manufacturers and stockists of specialist uPVC products, with companies now a lot more focussed on hiring the best people for their depots to support the demand that’s coming their way. With low-cost housing at the centre of UK construction growth, uPVC products and in particular Windows, Doors and Conservatories are in high demand as a consistent and reliable product for these projects, and as such developers are turning to specialists.

If you are noticing the change in demand from your trade customers and need to attract the best people to work for your business, we would be happy to speak with you to offer our honest advice.
